According to Reports: BBC’s Mumbai Coverage Minimized Jewish Angle
December 11, 2008 – 11:31 amIn his weekly Canadian Jewish News media analysis column “According to Reports,” Paul Michaels, CIC Director of Communications, reviews the coverage of the terror attacks in Mumbai, particularly the targetting of the Chabad House.
The BBC and, to a lesser extent, the New York Times, played down the terrorists’ specific targeting of Jews. Michaels quotes an op-ed by Mideast media analyst Tom Gross: “For most of the Mumbai siege, the BBC went out of its way to avoid reporting that the Jewish community centre was one of the seven targets. At one point viewers were told that ‘an office building’ had been targeted (referring to the Jewish centre as such).”
